Apple One Trillion – What Steve Job, Apple and Press Teaches Us About Entrepreneurship

Failure is an orphan. When things go south as it will always go sometimes, remember the press would always be around to report it, don’t let their stories faze you… (They are just doing their JOB!).

How do people who choose entrepreneurship deal with loss or failure? Do they coil up like a millipede and cry themselves to sleep? Or they just soldier on? If and when they do (cry), they must wake up in the morning and start all over again – difficult to do but that is the hallmark of a leader and an entrepreneur.

It must be heartwarming when it is the same press 22 years after writing off Apple is now shouting over the moon about Apple reaching the 1 trillion dollar valuation (the Business Week Article about “Fall of an American Icon “was published on February 5, 1996)

The new report of Apple attaining the $1, 000, 000, 000, 0000 (12 Zeros) valuation is “Iconic” and a tonic to the soul of entrepreneurs like me, I am confident there is room (plenty of headroom) at the top, we just need to keep pushing. Are you discouraged about a business that went bust or a business idea that was stolen from you? Don’t be…

Remember Steve Job on September 16th, 1985 was kicked out of the company he founded, he must have felt it was the end. 12 years later on a similar date (September 16, 1997), he rejoins the company to start a new era of what is possible of the most innovative phase of the company, today that company’s valuation is bigger than the Nigeria and South Africa economy put together.

And yes you have got to admire the Apple board, they had the good sense and humility of allowing the persons most qualified (Steve Jobs then later Tim Cook) to get the job done (they are happier –financially) for it today. As an entrepreneur don’t give up on your dream (you may need to change strategy or even hibernate if you need to) but don’t let the press determine or validate your future, remember as always, they are there to report the news.
