WhatsApp Vs Telegram – The Heat is ON
Telegram is the new WhatsApp. Though the guys at Facebook may not admit this Telegram is new hot chat platform for groups and it is hot on the tails of WhatsApp. The stats belly it: One Million User per month & 15 billion messages exchanged daily and all this was achieved with no advertising! If you doubt, you probably noticed that some of the WhatsApp groups you belong to that have reached their 256-user limit have decided to move Telegram, at least 4 groups that I belong to, moved during the past one month (how is that for Confirmation Bias).
What is responsible for the rise of Telegram, well there are several reasons but I will name a few here
- Cool Features – You can transfer larger files, Pin topics (to get your group focused on topic), share Gifs and most important of all – the nice user interface
- Search for an alternative: I guess people are getting tired of WhatsApp Green Background – It reminds you of the old PC Banking terminal of old. Yikes
- Innovation: Innovations that address user urgent concerns like the 256 User group limit on WhatsApp
For me the fascinating thing about Telegram is how they have been able to grow the customer base without spending a single dime on advertising – Now social media and marketing expert would be scratching their head and asking themselves why and how … but the truth is that rise of Telegram is simply base old fashion marketing technique we all know but most times do not actively pursue which; make a good product that meets the needs to the customers, if the customers are happy with their experience, they will naturally be your advocates and evangelists. They will gladly tell others without expecting any reward. In Marketing that is what is called “Word of Mouth marketing” and it is probably of the best form of marketing ….
In a research done by Mckinsey published in April 2010, it was observed that in developing markets, word of mouth was the single most important factor that was taking into consideration from when they considered making a purchase till the eventual purchase of the product (so it is no surprise Nigeria are moving to Telegram in droves). Funny thing is this article is also a form of Word of Mouth marketing J … Irony
If you use Telegram, pray tell why do you use it and do you prefer it to WhatsApp?
